Deer

Mule deer are the abundant in Waterton. Because of their long time proximity to humans, they are not easily spooked as the deer outside the park. You will often see them grazing on lawns and flower gardens or licking up salt pellets off store front porches.

White-tailed deer can also be found throughout the park. Thought not as comfortable to humans as the Mule deer, we are seeing them more frequently as they adapt to humans. Deer, elk and moose are members of the cervid (deer) family because they possess true antlers which they shed every year. The male deer are usually the ones who display the dominant antlers and can be used to determine there age.
